ISTANBUL & CAPPADOCIA

Passport
As a Malaysian passport holder, I saved so much time and hassle at the airport and before departure, because I don't need a visa to enter Turkey.

Money
The local currency of Turkey is Turkish Lira. As Turkey has become one of the EU countries, EURO is also accepted. But, dunno why, the Turkish still prefer to use Turkish Lira in most of their business transactions. For example, they didn't accept my Euro money when I purchased ticket at the train station. I had to take the trouble to change my Euro to Lira at the money changer. 1 Turkish Lira = 0.89 Euro.

Hotel
Most of the backpackers choose to stay in the "hostel", which costs Euro 30 per night. It's considered the cheapest accomodation in Turkey. But, I still prefer to stay in a decent hotel, that's why I checked in a 2-star hotel which costs me 40 Euro. That hotel (motel, I guess) was so small, only 10 rooms. The actual room rate is 50 Euro per night, but, when I checked out, I asked the hotel owner whether I could get a discount as I checked in quite late (at around 8 PM), and the boss said yes and I was charged 40 Euro, Nia.....(this "Nia" is still so expensive to me). The hotel owner is handsome (around 28 years old), and he's not as talkative/flirtatious/over-friendly as other Turkish guys.

Turkish guys
Oh my God !! They seemed too free, no need to work/had nothing better to do like that, I was quite annoyed when being followed, approached and asked many questions by those Turkish guys. Flirtatious, talkative, over-friendly, annoying, asking-too-much-questions are my words to describe them.
I'm not the only one who think so, I asked other female tourists, they also agreed with me, and they had the same problem like me. I just could not enjoy myself in Istanbul, without too much attention and disturbance. It's really unpleasant.
But, when I visitted to Cappadocia. I found that the guys in Cappadocia are more decent, and they know how to give some space, respect and privacy to the tourists.

Tourist hotspot.
Sultanamet is the old town area where all the local attractions are situated. Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia Musuem, Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, Hippodrome, Galata Tower.

It's possible to visit Istanbul in half a day, and it's a good idea to take a ferry to visit to Princess Island, but I didn't do so, because I chose to visit to Cappadocia. It took me 10 hours to reach there by bus.
I wanted to go there by plane, only 1-hour flight, the tour fee was Euro 330, including a return flight, one-night hotel/cave accomodation, 2 breakfast, 2 lunch, tour guide, 2-day tour ( Red tour and green tour), airport shuttle bus.
I didn't have enough money, and when I went to the ATM to withdraw money, the ATM machine asked for the 4-digit password. What a weird ATM. But, the German tourist told me that in some European countries, those ATM machines only accept 4-digit password. So, I failed to withdraw money, I boh lui to pay for the flight, I just paid 130 Euro to go there by bus loh !
In Turkey, if I paid by credit card, I would be charged 8 % extra.
After that, I realized that it's a very good option to go there by bus, because I saved one night accomodation expenses, by sleeping in the bus. I met many backpackers whom went there by bus, they told me the same reason of taking the night bus.
I could not sleep well in the bus, I suffered neck and back pain. Cilaka mia ATM..... I boh lui to pay for the flight package.....

F & B
Too much meat, kebabs in pottery, chicken, beef, lamb. Very heaty. Lack of salads/vegetables. But, I like the freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and orange juice. Very fresh and juicy ! I also like their Dark Chocolate Mocha at Starbuck.

Weather
Sunny, around 30 degree celcious at day time, quite cold at night, around 12 degree celcious. It's even colder in the Cave hotel, so cold can die, not easy to live like a caveman....

Cave Hotel
So fun !! Dunno how to describe the feeling and experience. Must try !

Special people I met
Jeff (from Brisbane), Nick, Elizabeth (from Washington D.C),
Park (South Korean backpacker, he was my photographer, he's so nice and funny),
Meng (Chinese backpacker), some Nihonjin (forgot their names, too long),

Kudishi, the travel agent in Istanbul. He was the only person whom knew that I'm air crew. I was asked to introduce some "girlfriends"(customers) for him. (Nah!) He offered me a special price for the tour, the original price was 150 Euro, I paid 130 Euro.
(Edited : Jeff paid 300 Euro (for 2 packages, Cappadocia and Ehpesus)

Sisualai Belly Dancers
Park and Japanese girl (can't remember her name) were asked to perform belly dance in the tour bus. But, they just sisualai.

Turkish song
(A very nice song, it's actually an Arabic song, sung by a popular Turkish singer, Tarkan)

Other places which I didn't have time to visit
Ehpesus and Pamukkale

CAPPADOCIA (Part 1)

I'm in Melbourne. I didn't have much time to write a proper post about Cappadocia, when I was in Dubai yesterday. I'll continue later when I'm back to Dubai again.

TURKEY

It's a last-minute decision. I'm now in Istanbul, staying in a not-so-good hotel. I guess I'm spoilt by the company. I'm really not used to this kind of hotel which I'm staying now, but I'm trying to "adjust" myself to get used to it. What to do, I'm so kiamsiap to pay for a better hotel. This hotel costs Euro 40 per nite. Akdeniz Otel (Hotel). It's a 2-star hotel (maybe 1 star). But, I don't care lah, most of the time I'm out for sightseeing. I only come back here for sleeping and taking a dump. The good thing about this hotel is the free WIFI that I'm using now. I'm starting to like this hotel.

When I arrived Dubai from Sydney on the 30th, I found out that I've 6 days off (from 31st to 5th). I didn't request for it, they just gave me. Too good !! I've never had it since I joined. My roster is always so packed. Now is the time for me to enjoy. I've always wanted to visit eastern europe. Hahahha... that's why, I didn't request for flight to work, and I don't wanna stay in Dubai in these 6 days (crazy summer, damn warm in Dubai !!). So, I immediately booked for an air ticket to fly to Istanbul, and departed on the 31st. I didn't book for a hotel before I departed. I know it's so risky for not making a hotel reservation. What if all the hotels here are fully booked (now is peak season), and I have to sleep beside the street (fun kai). But, I'm always lucky! Of course I would not fun kai ! When I arrived here at 7 pm, (flight delayed), 31st of May, I got on the light metro line at Ataturk Airport and got off at Zeytinburu station, changed to Tram Line, and then got off at Sultanahmet. Then checked in this hotel, which is just opposite the Tram station.
In Europe (Eastern Europe, Turkey included), the 2-star hotels are not cheap ( for me).
Now, 1st of June, 9.55 am (Istanbul time).

To be continued.....

1st of June, 7pm
I'm getting bored in Istanbul, after visitting all the tourist hotspots at Sultanamet, so, I'm going to Cappadocia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cappadocia) for 2 days and 1 nite. It takes about 10 to 12 hours to reach there from Istanbul by bus. I'll depart at 8.30 PM.

To be continued,

2nd of June, 6PM
What a tiring bus trip, I reached here at around 9 AM, checked in this very unique hotel, it's called Cave hotel, and it's really a cave hotel, all rooms are caves, I'm now staying in one of the caves, like a caveman. There is free WIFI in this very ancient cave hotel.

I'm joining 2 tours in Cappadocia. Today is the Red Tour, which is visitting to Gorome Open Air Museum, Goreme Panaramic View, Uchisar castle, Urgup, Devrent valley, Pasabaglari, Avanos.
Departed from the Cave hotel at 9.45 AM.
So, I had 45 minutes to prepare myself, after checked in the "cave". I had a quick breakfast before departed from the hotel for sightseeing.

Tomorrow (3rd of June) will be the Green Tour, which is visitting to Esentepe panaromic view point, Derinkuyu Underground City, Nar Lake, Ihlara Valley (hiking in the canyon for 3 Km), Yaprakhisar, Selime Monastery, Agzikarahan (Caravanserai).

So, I just came back from the Red Tour. I'm so exhausted now. I had a minor injury, because I fell down, my Jade bracelet was broken into 2 pieces. I bought it in Beijing. There is a Chinese belief, if the jade breaks, it means the owner of the jade is escaped from an accident. Hehehe... now I'm safe. But, I really like my Jade, now I'm keeping my broken Jade, with my broken heart.
I'll upload all the pictures which I took in Istanbul and Cappadocia, later. Going for dinner now
To be continued....

4th of June, 12.45 PM
I'm here ın Istanbul agaın. The nıght bus departed from Cappadocıa at 8 PM (3rd), arrıved Istanbul bus statıon at 6 AM thıs mornıng. Slept on the bus and saved one night accomodation expenses.
Then, I got on the traın at Otto??? statıon, got off at Aks???(can't remember the name, wıll fınd out later) , change to tram, to Sultanamet statıon. It's tırıng BUT ıt's really worthwhıle to vsıt to Cappadocıa. To be honest, I don't quıteke Istanbul, but I really lıke Cappadocıa. I've never heard of ıt before, I found out thıs place from the travel agent at Istanbul. I'm so lucky that I found out Cappadocıa. It's such an ancıent, unıque, hıdden place that not many people know about. And the caves hotel, wow! It's cool, hehehe... I mean ıt's too fun to lıveke a caveman ın the cave hotel. All these Cappadocıa tours and caveman's lıfe experıence are not ın my orıgınal plan, and I've been there, seen that, and trıed that. hahahah.... too happy !!! I really lıke the cave hotel, ıt's actually a very lousy hotel (the toılet ıs dırty, no haır dryer, no phone, no ıron, no frıdge, ıt's just lıke a cave equıpedth a bed, chaır, toılet bowl, bath tub), but ıt's such a unıque hotel that I've never seen before.
I need to catch my flıght to fly back to Dubaı at 7.25PM later. I have no tıme to vısıt to Ephesıs, one of the seven wonder of the world.

Yesterday's tour ın Cappadocıa (the green tour) was really fun, especıally the hıkıng part, underground cıty, and the place where the Star War movıe was fılmed (I don't remember the Turkısh name of the placeş, wıll check ıt from the brochure later).

I put my baggage and laptop at the travel agent offıce, will go back at 4.30 PM later, get on their free shuttle bus to the aırport and the flıght wıll depart at 7.25 pm
I'll arrıve Dubaı at 12.30 AM, on the 5th of June.

Now, havıng lunch at this restaurant whıch provıdes free internet. I'm using their laptop to blog, Turkish keyboard is so funny, I cannot type fast because I'm not familiar with the keyboard.
Now Eatıng kebab and drınkıng grapefruıt juıce.

末代皇帝 THE LAST EMPEROR OF CHINA & 我的前半生 THE MEMOIR OF PU YI

http://youtube.com/watch?v=AFEZuEzh6bo

This 3-hour movie, THE LAST EMPEROR, was produced in 1987. Hehehe.... The emperor Pu Yi (John Lone) in this movie is more handsome than the real Pu Yi (above).
The empress (Joan Chen) is so HOT too.

"The Last Emperor", a 1987 film directed by Bernardo Bertolucci (Italian), documenting the life of China's last emperor Aisin-Gioro Puyi, who was the 12th emperor of the Manchurian Empire that conquered China and ruled between 1644 to 1911. Puyi became emperor in 1908 but was forced to abdicate after the Republic of China was established in 1912. Puyi was later expelled from the Forbidden Palace in 1924 and later became a Japanese puppet emperor of Manchukuo between 1932 until 1945 when Japan was defeated in WWII. Puyi was captured by the Soviet Russians and expatriated to the now Communist China in 1950 where he spent 10 years in re-education camp. He died of cancer in 1967 during the Cultural Revolution."

Some different stories about Pu Yi here,
http://baike.baidu.com/view/26812.htm

The Memoir of Pu Yi (1964 version), the author is Puyi himself, but it has been edited a few times by others.

FENG SHUI

Among all the housekeeping jobs, the most difficult is to wipe and arrange the books, magazines, guides, brochures. The process is so long and difficult. It takes so many days to complete. It also involves some decision making, like, to bring back home or to leave it here, to throw or to keep (some magazines).
Sometimes, I ended up reading those books/magazines, and forgot about my "mission" (to wipe & arrange them). After reading, I just put them aside, and waited until the next day to continue arranging the books. If I had a 5-day trip, then the job had to be continued 5 or 6 days later. That's why, it's never-ending !!
Wiping all these stuffs and arranging them according to their groups/categories is already VERY time-consuming. Then, there is this space problem.
I just need to bring so many things back to M'sia.
So many things, so much "obstructions", bad for Feng Shui !
